A Neutral State Of Peace Poem by Leah Ayliffe

A Neutral State Of Peace

Sun like honey,
though skies are sometimes grey.
Time doesn't seem to stay still these days, I feel it moving at a fast pace.
Already the lips and hands of my Cuban man fade in mind.
His face, that smile and tan, words in the air from his tongue singing Spanish lullabies to my ears alone, melting my heart.
"Your madness fits perfectly with mine"
I'm in a movie for this moment of time.
Laughing, folding into each other on the beach during early morning hours.
He was the therapy I was hoping to receive, combined with the hot sun and turquoise sea.
Time.
Oh how easily did I just slip back and relive the sweetness of Cuba?
Now.
Things keep moving. I like it when it's moving.
In motion. My favourite way to be.
No time to think about what you can and cannot control.
Joy is found in these days of warmer spring air and blue skies that make you believe in heaven.
School in session at the unusual time of year, but it's what brings me to my feet and gets me leaving the house.
Flowers. Trees. Friends and strangers filling the street.
Picnics in the city parks, the island -
summer dreams lay glittering in front of us and I can taste the fresh ideas of the future in today.
Love hangs in the air of possibility.
He is the epitome of potential.
That's a story for tomorrow to nurture in the rain.
I wonder if it will bloom or wilt.
Here is a memory to say goodbye by keeping near.
Here I sit with my coffee and words.
I feel the neutral beauty of peace laced with happiness.
A neutral state, such a change from the chaos I used to chase.
It's all I've ever needed
