A Lover’s Enlightenment Poem by Daniel P Martin

A Lover’s Enlightenment

Rating: 3.0

How come nobody told me, that the sun sits in the sky,
That he warms the hearts of lovers as he slowly passes by.
His colours like an orchestra, all awaiting his command,
He conducts them across the ocean, spilling out upon the sand.

How come nobody told me, that the stars come out at night,
That the darkness of the skyline is uplifted by their light,
They tremble with their beauty, as if held by nature’s rope,
And they guide the path of lovers, every one a ray of hope.

How come nobody told me about the beauty of the rose,
That her sweet and subtle aroma is so pleasant to the nose,
Her design so carefully crafted, with her heart and soul encased,
She ignites the flames of lovers, as they mirror her embrace.

How come nobody told me, about the birdsong from the trees,
Their tune so soft and peaceful, like a whisper in the breeze,
A harmonised performance, as the night-time turns to dawn,
Their melody wakes the lovers, gently stirring with a yawn,

Now I understand the sun’s appeals to those in love,
And I understand the stars that hover gracefully above,
I understand the rose’s allure, and I hear the birds anew,
These mysteries all revealed themselves the moment I found you.
