A Loss So Deep Poem by David Burton Richardson

A Loss So Deep

A loss so deep, so empty
That time will never heal
So many words, so many thoughts
That can never be said
And when those dark lonely thoughts
Fill your mind and nothing else prevails
We look back to times past
To happy childhood that can never be relived
And darkest darks and deepest depths
Will never be far away
And as body fades and mind to follow
We think about that time when life was so hollow
So shallow, that life is all but gone
That hollow ground, that lonely Earth, that lonely empty Shell that once was living
But will never be again
Dark, dark, a dark so dark
That the Devil shy's away
Until one day it is over
Peaceful, perfect calm
And darkness is for another day
But life for now goes on
And on, and on
Painful, dark with nothing to gain
Until one day we meet
And happiness will prevail again.
