A Labourer’s Tale Poem by Rajesh Thankappan

A Labourer’s Tale

Rating: 5.0

Toiling hard, digging the soil
To raise high- rise buildings into the sky
Deep buried rocks in the lower strata we met
Compounding our effort and our work.
Breaking the obstacles, the depth we cleared
When as astounding scene before us appeared,
Skull-less skeletons piled in a heap
Lay in depths where History hadn’t yet peeped.
Were they comrades lost fighting for a cause
Victims, traitors or vanquishers vanquished?
But does not this horrid scene
From our obscured past to us represent
The story of violence that we still carry into the present.

Violence is as old as human history... it is not something new....! Skull...less skeletons suggest that beheading was something common then! The gruesome acts of our forefathers are handed down to the progeny... But fortunately, there has ever been a messiah to save the world from total annihilation! Great write!

Far from cozy, the writing suggests the violence and even madness of those old days that often simmers beneath the surface of today's life.......Rajeshji..........very very well composed......10

Violence started as soon as the sons of Adams grown up. Allama Iqbal in his poem, Lenin Khuda Ke Huzoor mein, wrote: - Tu quadir-o-aadil hay magar tere jahan mein- - -Hayn talkh bahut banda-e-mazdoor ke auquat (You are Almighty and Just but in Your world the laborers are passing a hard time) anice write.............10
