A Hearty Christmas Poem by Dr John Celes

A Hearty Christmas

The Virgin Mary accepted
Obediently to God’s command,
And told the angel, ‘So be it! ’
-A blessed lady’s holiness.

And thus, the Fiat came so true,
As Mary prayed her canticle;
Her husband Joseph in a dream
Was told about Emmanuel’s birth.

Warned by an angel in a dream,
Joseph and Mary left the town
To Bethlehem from Herod’s plan
To kill all babies, less than two.

And lo, there wasn’t room at the inn;
A stable was given to them;
As Mary had her labor-pains,
They could not search for room elsewhere.

And angels told the shepherds near
About the birth of Jesus King
The three Magi came worshiped Him
Brought by the Star of Bethlehem.

A baby boy in swaddled clothes
Lay in the manger’s dim-light, hay;
God’s Son had chosen poverty
When born upon the earth this day.

An angel choir sang aloud,
Over the manger of Christ’s birth;
‘Gloria in Excelsis, Deo,
And peace to men all of good-will.’

Yes, Christmas brought us peace and joy,
By love of God, the Father’s boy!
It happened as per prophecy –
Mankind would get a Messiah.

‘Let heart be cradle for the Lord;
So, keep it pure for Him to dwell;
And share the joy, peace with others;
Redemption came for all, brothers.’
