A Fairytale Poem by Anjali Mandokhot

A Fairytale

Rating: 5.0

In the tender years she crept in life
When the mind was like the wet soil,
Ready to be impressioned and dried.
My untouched cogency, she did ripple and roil.

She was the first to show 'the world so high'
Where 'twinkle twinkle' the little star.
She told me, how the 'clock struck one',
How 'Mary's lamb' went so far.

My Pied Piper led me, to a fairy's land
There, gave me Fantasy, my magic stick
And Imagination, my magic vroom,
Pitchers of magic drops, in all tongues to pick.

And taught, how to weave these drops-
Into threads of enchanting rhythm and music,
Adorn it with the beads of thoughts,
Incense with feelings, these potions of magic.

She took me to all different lands,
In different tongues I saw her speak,
She sung me the song of 'The solitary reaper'
Days passed in a minute years passed in a week

I grew up hearing stories from her
Of 'La belle dame sans merci',
Of lady and the dragon and great god Pan,
Of kings and queens, of sand and sea.

In a moment she would sprinkle words
And show 'The sun in conflict with the moon',
In another she would lift the curtains up
To show me how the lovers swoon.

I heard breezes growling as storms,
Guns shouting from a distant war,
Wailing widows, orphans and what not
By measure far, yet I felt the sore.

And when a failure left me alone
She came and taught personification
And the whole house, came alive
As if friends offering consolation

So till day, she accompanies-
Carefully stealing any idle moment.
Look she's smiling, she's done it again
As, in her fairyland, all this I foment.

What a wonderful gift you have. Wrapped up in rainbow lace and sprinkled in fairy dust. I believe I met you on Christmas Day. Another gift.

This is the kind of thing I'd love to see illustrated in a children's book. Great story, very clever.
