A Dog Finds Peanut Poem by Stephen Katona

A Dog Finds Peanut

Rating: 3.5

There's a little girl I protect,
By doing my best to detect,
Peanuts by their smell,
As they make her throat swell,
And cover her in a rash,
As quick as a flash.
I check her every meal,
For what it might conceal,
So on all her days,
She's safe to graze.

Now there is danger in the room,
I recognize that perfume.
In her hand a piece of bread,
Fills me with a sudden dread.
I start to whine,
To stop her dine,
But she doesn't heed,
And is about to feed.
I knock it to the floor,
Where she won't eat it any more.

She says, 'Oh, thank you my dear pet,
You've saved me from another threat.
I'll show you my gratitude,
With some of your favourite food.
How these nuts make me afraid,
They're so tricky to evade,
But you never seem to forget,
To be my safety net,
And really excel,
At keeping me well.'
