A Day By The Sea By Alfred Loveland

Our day out at Swanage by the sea goes us
Up bright and early to go on a bus
That takes all us Senior citizen on our weekly trip
As we wait for the bus to pull up outside
It’s late as always I heard one person chide
Why worry says another we have all day.
Well at last our bus from Poole duly arrived
Disabled and old folk on bus always go first
That way the queue gets quickly dispersed
But the driver still has a moan and cursed
He is behind schedule and in a bad mood
As for handling old folk he is not clued
One old dear fumbled with her bus pass and it dropped to the floor.
Yet all he was worried about was her blocking his door
He may be young rude and not very smart
We all know we have to be seated before he can depart
So between us all with a nod, and a wink
We all take our time with a laugh and methinks
He has met his match and more with us folk
He had better watch out or he will get a poke
From granny's umbrella that she carries with pride
If she wields it look out for fire and smoke
She will never take nonsense from him
As to her the umbrella is like her rolling pin
Never to be used to keep out the rain
But to inflict on to rude people a little pain
Well at last at Swanage we all arrive
OK a little late but we shall survive
I always go to the same little spot
Up some steep steps with a seat at the top
Then along a bit to a level path
Just below the Heroes Cenotaph
With a view out to sea of old Harry Rocks
Just down below kids on the beach without any socks
Well sitting here for an hour or two
I have more things that I have to do
Next on my agenda is my fish and chip shop
I get there after quite a walk, sit outside and down I flop.
I am not as young as I used to be
But all this is worth our trip to the sea
It gives me pleasure and keeps me fit
Well folks for now that's about it
