A Canary In A Lime Tree Poem by Juan Olivarez

A Canary In A Lime Tree

Rating: 5.0

A canary in a lime tree,
Poured out his heart.
And all could see,
His happiness depart.

His song of sorrow,
reached the soul.
No more tomorrows,
Just bitter cold.

He was left alone,
In the cold, cruel world.
Just singing his song,
As his world unfurled.

Longing for the one,
That he loved so.
As the dying sun,
Just ceased to glow.

His soft, sweet song,
Made my tears flow.
Cause I felt alone,
As I watched him go.

Flying off all alone,
His heart torn in two.
To an empty home,
Feeling lonely and blue.

Juan, after reading this poem I noticed a wetness in my eyes and it really takes some doing for that. I kept looking for a happy ending, but it never came. A great write by a great poet. Your friend, Lynn.

It really made me teary. Your delineation is so moving that I couldn't help thinking that such a tiny creature has also emotions and hopes. But who cares for tiny voices in this world of might. Very strong feeling. Excellent stuff.

a canary is so small but picture a a strong creature living in this world. Fighting his own existence and survival. This is beautiful work.

Flying off all alone, His heart torn in two. To an empty home, Feeling lonely and blue. Really horrible the state of mind you have pictured by words. Shocking is the right word. Perhaps a personality drowns under the solitude. Can't think the situation. Horrible is the right word. As a poem, beautiful the study of nature and relation. Thank you very much. Regards, pranab 10
