A Butt Call Poem by Ellie Rakita

A Butt Call

My phone rang and I got frozen, seeing your name pop up there,
(as I've creativity modified it on my phone couple times in those 3 months, since we broke up)

I have not heard from you since then;
Lots of thoughts rushed through my head in a split second -
what could you be possibly calling about and if it would feel good to me to talk to you at all
and if I should answer it or let it go to my voicemail

Then I thought, it would be "resisting, " if I dont pick up…
I‘ve been practicing non-resistant thoughts
and love the feeling of them;
I want to be in sync with the Universe
and open to whatever comes and goes...
so I should answer it…

O Man, and what if it is an emergency for real
and everyone on the planet, you could have possibly asked for help
are not there right now, somehow...
and the only person you could call for help
Was me...

So I better answer this call instead of letting it go to the voicemail
…just to be a good citizen; it does not have to mean a thing

So, I said "Hello" calmly, prepared to hear just about anything
from "I missed you …" or "how have you been"
to "we have Mr. So and so in a hospital with us…"

On the other side of the line
a woman was talking loudly on the street
to someone else about some casual unrelated stuff…
and a lot of street noise…
I said Hello again…and heard more of the street noise coming through

Ah I see, It was a "butt call! ",I guessed
An accidental cyber Hello from you.
Well, Hello...I didn't even feel like talking
On the first place - You called me

Actually, you know...
I'd be fine having a heart to heart conversation,
If that's what you've been wondering about…
Im ready… and it should feel refreshing, after all…

Your name popped up on my phone
but it was just a butt call
