2+2 Poem by Tiernan Booth

2+2

When you hear a song, no matter how long,
There is always a story behind it.
If you knew the story would you still sing along,
If the story's not clear and you think it is wrong?
If the story is no fairy tale,
If the heartbreak is something to painful to bare,
But I want you to take away the entire story,
Not a word of your choosing, that takes away from the glory,
The glory of the story,
The story, I'm warning,
May make you cry,
But it may take some time,
To comprehend.
But it's worth it in the end!
It's worth your time,
You could spare just a dime!
It won't give you a bore,
It's not just a chore,
When you were a child you wanted to explore,
The first thing you learned: 2+2=4!
It something more
Than it was before!
One word plus another,
Is not just more words,
They make up a story,
That story's not boring,
That story has meaning!
To the wrong side you're leaning,
The side that's demeaning,
The side that's just seeming
To take the words of the story and twist them around,
It took me a while but those people I found,
They tend to pull you to the ground,
Pull you to where it is safe and sound!
But if you go down to far,
I'm afraid you might drown!
