2018 Poem by Mduduzi OneMind

2018

I'm sorry bad things happened to you.
I'm sorry your life took a wrong turn
And that made you a bitter person
Your hopes were crushed, those you loved turned against you.
And those you were walking with, were actually not walking with you.

I am sorry things and people were not as you thought they were.
You were lied to, and so you cried your heart out.
I'm sorry it broke, and you felt the pain in your spirit and emotion.

I'm sorry you feel like life is unjust and unfair towards you.
I'm really sorry that you feel like God has taken out his gloves and he's hitting you harshly.
He is a consuming fire after all.

I am not sorry at all
But I urge you to stand tall
Be on your feet and ready yourself for another round without being punched back to the ground.

When they are successful, be happy for them.
When things are going good for them, rejoice in your heart.
Have courage that you'll taste the same wine
Try not to destroy what others build.
Build your own house, create your own world.

Be bold like soldiers at war
2018 is over, erase your memory
And create a space for new beginnings.
