2013 Poem by Ridge Dillard

2013

Friends found and friends lost
Hearts dedicated to a loving cause
I was nestled between
my desires and my values
And took the high road
Only to fall to my greatest low
Tried my best only to be dealt the blow
Only a lover scorned may know
I admit my fault, the lie of omission
My failure to mention what you were to me
Thus my love for you turned
Into my greatest enemy
The feelings harbored
in a shy and shackled heart
Are the burden which buries the beast
In the deepest sea
Desolate and lonely
This year I’ll vow to take more chances
A choice made in light
Of the consequences of plight
If not for myself
Than to rid your face from my mind
Rid myself of remembered times
You were the dearest friend I knew
The closest I’ve been
To finding a love which was true
