Peter Nwadike Poems

My days and nights have become slumberless,
Dearest, the pains in my heart are numberless;
My yearnings shall never get through to you,
Not where the black coach of separation has taken you;
...

Life is good and life is sweet,
I want to live, I want to exist,
But for how long I cannot predict.
...

It was all calm and peaceful
They lived and enjoyed paradise
Until there was a rebellion
A side had to be taken
...

Like a raindrop to an ocean,
I lost a friend to the ground;
He never knew what was coming on,
Till his heart swayed too loud;

Last Breath Of My Soul

My days and nights have become slumberless,
Dearest, the pains in my heart are numberless;
My yearnings shall never get through to you,
Not where the black coach of separation has taken you;
I can no longer walk down from the top of the hill,
And stay with you under the mango tree;
Beautiful beginnings, remembering how we started,
The hours we spent together cannot be counted;
Every second with you was like eternity,
Your presence always engulfed me in captivity;
We smiled, talked, played and laughed together,
Separated ourselves from the world just to be with each other;
Inseparable, unbreakable and invincible,
To others our love was enviable;
We had high hopes of being together forever,
Having pretty kids to call us father and mother;
Alas all of that was only a mirage,
When on that fateful day I received a sad message.

Sorrow and sadness then became my best friends,
My entire life spiralled to a dead end;
What used to be my sweetest reality,
Has turn out to be nothing but sad memory;
A dream unfulfilled, promises unkept,
Leaving my heart and my soul unkempt;
I want to take a little boat and go out to sea,
And never come back to this harsh reality;
Or maybe paint a picture I'll forever loath,
My paintbrush will be a razor and the canvas my throat;
For I and my heart have decided to end it all,
Soon there'll be flowers, prayers, candles and all;
Let all know that I am glad to go,
Where the pain and sorrow shall no longer flow;
In death I can no longer think of you,
For death is not my dream where I still caress you;
And so with the last breath of my soul,
I pray and bless you, that you may remain whole.
