Paul Cornell Poems

I’ve been trying to say,
Desperately
I’ve been trying to stay,
Desperately
...

Imagine a land not far away, a land that times forgotten,
A land where people love to love and guns are made of cotton.
Imagine a land not far away, a land that everyone remembers,
A land where ALL the people rule, not parliamentary members.
...

She hurts, why does she hurt?
She cries, why does she cry?
She hides, why does she hide?
She cuts, why does she cut?
...

I love the sea,
She understands me, you see.
We hurt her yet she still brings me gifts dropped by my feet,
Not just me, she welcomes everyone she meets,
...

Odds on, cos he lies and she cries when its gone, odds on.
Odds long, if it happens this time then he's won, she's still gone, odds on.
Odds strong, flashing lady she calls and he’s gone, odds on.
Got odds wrong, this time and he wins then it’s gone, odds on.
...

She’s lost her, where did she go?
Toss back time in her head, to and fro.
The giggles and cries and pictured her eyes.
The sickness, regret holding you back,
...

As he sits, the more he drinks, the bar maids pretty hot
And so mind you, is every-girl, who happens by to stop
To sit a while to talk and smile, about a world that’s lost the plot
But as if it’s happening sip by sip the conversation starts to rot
...

Heart pounds, tick.
Sweat drops, drip.
Losing control, quick.
Crying soul, hit.
...

Time drags with slow frustration, the candles burning down to its core,
Pills and the port don’t help fix this problem just make my head feel swollen and sore.
Awakes evil twin has you clutched in his claw squeezing so tight you cannot breath,
And your thoughts flicker like a candle at night but consciousness won’t let you leave.
...

A gentle little Irish soul who was sweet as sweet can be,
So harmless and delicate her love and care was clear for all to see
As soft and caring as they come who used to love to make us teas,
Always heard her coming with a beep or laughing with a wheeze.
...

All she hears are shout & cries, she knows this cant go on,
living in this life on a world where she feels she cant belong.
It started out so perfect, how does it always end so wrong?
She breaks down and pours apologies for everything shes never done.
...

Second place

Your immense brown eyes, waves of hair and beautiful soft face,
No one else stands a chance of taking anything but second place
...

Where am I?
Lost?
It's dark and I am lost but I am not alone.
What does this feel like? What should this feel like? Where am I? Life… a labyrinth.
...

The smell of her hair warms in my chest,
the softness of her lips with which she is blessed.
Her delicate skin my fingers gently brush,
the time with her I don't want to rush.
...

Its depths so vast like nothing we know,
the warmest a bath - the coldest like snow.
The life it can give but also it holds,
the shallows of its edges it regularly folds.

The Best Poem Of Paul Cornell

Desperately

I’ve been trying to say,
Desperately
I’ve been trying to stay,
Desperately
Why am I always wrong?
Constantly
Always the same with me.
Constantly
Why am I still hanging on?
Rescue me
There you go again, I’m chasing you.
Leaving me
Why should I wait for you?
Let me be
