but hours, too, are seen not long to last;
and minutes, seconds, - they are worse to pick:
The time I use to count is gone too fast.

How many moments spent on talk are lost
when friends and lovers turn away with scorn
from those with whom their hearts and lives were crossed
by fated stars from which their loves were born?
...

What weapons stronger, sharper than the sword
cut deeper, quickly, bloodless to the bone?
Brief utterance that cannot be ignored,
once said, "NO! " leaves one lover all alone.

Not long the searing embers fed the flame
where two souls flickered first with passion spent
pursuing each their ardent goals the same:
unwav'ring trust, regardless where they went.

If I could look into your eyes to see
myself in you, would you gaze into these
to see if I in you might ever be
what you, for me, brings my love to its knees?
