Qué habrá sido de Pupema
el alcohólico
el vagabundo
que delirante nos contaba
de una noche de guerra
en la que tres soldados
con las cabezas vendadas
jugaban al dominó
mientras el capellán
y los músicos del regimiento
cantaban y se emborrachaban
y un soldado enemigo
amarrado a un árbol
miraba el lodazal

qué habrá sido de Pupema
...

I wonder what became of Pupema
the alcoholic
the bum
who deliriously told us
about a night during the war
when three soldiers
with their heads bandaged
played dominoes
while the chaplain
and the musicians of the regiment
sang and got drunk
and an enemy soldier
tied to a tree
looked at the quagmire

La infancia
regresa en silencio

siento que me aprietan
las manos de mi padre
...

Childhood
comes back silently

I feel my father's hands
holding me tight
...

Es tiempo de lluvias
y la música del agua
me hace pensar
que el poema debería dar pie
a una composición para orquesta
que eleve un poco el alma

nada de licencias poéticas
sino unos versos sutiles
que den cuenta de cierto cautiverio
de cierta resistencia
de cierto forcejeo

algo biográfico
hondo
digno de memoria
pero a través de una pequeña fábula
que a su vez fuera
la historia natural de las plantas
...

It is the rainy season
and the music of water
makes me think
that the poem should give cause
to a composition for orchestra
to elevate the soul a little

no poetic licenses at all
but some subtle verses
to recount a certain captivity
a certain resistance
a certain striving

something biographical
profound
worthy of memory
but through a small fable
that would also be
the natural history of plants
...

feliz y solitaria
de que el primer
pensamiento
fue tu rostro
...

Oh!
the happy and solitary
certainty
of the first
thought
being your face
...

Tuve un insomnio feliz

pasé la noche en vela
pensando en mis amigos

increíble tanta risa
en la memoria
...

I had a happy

sleepless night
thinking about my friends

incredible so much laughter
in my memory
