G.R. Gaus Poems
I find it difficult, to meet this one, My search has traveled far, Well beneath the setting sun, Seems the distance of a star.
The day we lose our innocence, The day we become confused, A darkened threat of ambiance, Grips tight a life misused.
We walked along the crystal stream, Melting snow, in swollen banks, To be with you, a waking dream, Every moment, I give thanks.
A Simple Metaphor
Naked I came, naked I'll leave, Naked was I, when first conceived, Naked I thought, naked I learned, Naked was I, when first I yearned,
The Last Dance
Ever so long we've strolled our path, Hand in hand, with a spin and whirl, Passing time's withheld its wrath, Gliding on, through this final twirl.
Manifest Destiny Rides Again
We call ourselves Americans; Have we erased the past? Forgotten how this land was won? Can't hear the distant blast?
The Element Of Fire
Once in time, the lightning struck, The fire, burned open and wild; Early man, first felt the warmth, Comfort, for mother and child.
How far do you reach, my family tree? How many, born and died; Great grandfather sailed from Germany, His past, was soon set aside.
Winter's day has seen its last, The clocks are winding down, O're the hills a shadow's cast, Lamenting; the lonely sound.
An idea begins with creative thought, Followed soon by drawing a plan, Finding a location, timely sought, Measurements consistent with span.
I thank you for this life, To experience a chance, To feel the hidden wonders, At more than just a glance.
Why did I put up with you? For so many worthless years, Hardly ever, made a dime, Times; you brought me to tears.
Early morning’s origin of light, Pale; softly dozing in slumber, Ever so subtle, eyes given sight, Tones ignite in burnt umber.
Chasing One's Tail
Once, I was a much younger man, Passed my time in restless thought, Thinking of how I’d make my stand, Never sensing that I’d been caught.

Heard a story of one who knows,
Contentment is his guide,
Moving calmly, nothing slows,
His pace is kept inside.
They say his eyes burn with light,
Deep down, to the soul,
If he answer’s, it’s always right,
Patience made him whole.
A kindly smile upon his face,
As if I know him well,
Soft voice, filled with grace,
Magically casts his spell.
