Daniel Phillips Poems

Every useless breath
every pointless sigh
each and all essential
to the naked eye
...

Pictures that dance leave me full of regret
an ocean of language that I'll never get
a silence that weighs down my
conscience and yet
...

By tomorrow,
by the first light of anything,
i'm not hollow,
i am filled with the shape of things.
...

My head
implodes
on contact
...

Futility In Action

Every useless breath
every pointless sigh
each and all essential
to the naked eye

blank is the expression
black colors the cry
both of these have meaning
to the naked eye

but every soft expression
every seething sigh
hangs in my perception
a short and useless lie

I fail to find the meaning
I fail to take in strength
I pray I will fail, to fail to hope
to futilely fail away.
