There is no way out, for we were all born to die.

I never meant to feel, yet feeling I am still.
I didn’t want to take, but even now, your soul walks with me.
I didn’t want to give, yet my heart you still hold.

In time, today will seem like a dream.
In time, things will be less formidable than they seem.
In time, I'll be able to see exactly what everything means to me.

I breathe you now, though at such a distance, I’m unsure how.
I can stand as close as possible, yet never take in your scent.
You could stink for all I know.

Do you peer timidly from the faces of the past, allowing memories to haunt every waking moment?
Peer then, for the memories may become all that is left.

Do you mourn how freely you gave your heart, trusting there wouldn’t be an endless torment?

As darkness surrounds me, I wish for it to be complete and total, and even more so, permanent.
As wishes go, they're never granted.
Except, maybe once, but, that's over now.
Maybe, that's why I feel this way now.
