Allison Barnett Poems

I'm ready, so ready
to release the beast I master
The cords in his arched neck tremble
berating my control
...

The Pain is the worst pain in the world
It is not merely the pain of a broken arm,
that heals with time
Nor is it the pain of a starving child,
...

Petals falling falling falling,
they land, ever so light on their feet.
i hardly feel the soft touch of botanic fingers
as they curiously caress my skin.
...

So here is another poem for you
telling you how my love was true
But you decided to throw it away
and in the whole matter i had no say
...

What good is a day without you?
What is it worth?
Nothing. That's what.
I'm not sad, no tears will mark my face.
...

i just dont understand anything anymore
i see my mothers angry mouth
forming hard shapes
that produce such harsh sounds
...

7.

there is so much noise here
it rumbles through me like an earthquake
and throws off my senses
the final bell chimes at long length
...

8.

i walk alone through these brimming hallways
they spill over with friends and comrades
as i weave through them all, my head is held high,
but make no mistake, i am not proud.
...

Tick tock
Tick tock
it goes
like a clock
...

The dark angel came to me
the night I died
His identical ebony wings unfurled
like sails on a hell-bent pirate ship
...

11.

never ever have i known anything like this.
it is like magic,
the way his hands hold me,
as if they are parched, and must drink of my skin
...

Im sorry, i just cant control it sometimes
The pain of my past threatens to return
when this present one is rekindled.
The hot waves of anger you feel rolling towards you
...

Sweet little nothings whispered like a song into my yearning ears.
The words cascade into a waterfall of music,
with the rythm pounding on the rocks below.
I stand before this fantastic view,
...

I'm ready, so ready
to release the beasts I master
A sloitary prompt will open the floodgates
to drown all those in the torrents path
...

I can't ocntrol the inner vibrations,
so I just sit in the silence
and wait,
for what i don't know.
...

I want this oppresion to end.
I want to bend and break these invisible bars
that have webbed around me until i forget the bars,
forget the cage.
...

With the candles lit,
and the fire dancing
I went to retrieve
my tank of destruction.
...

harsh words, steel glances
frostbitten voice that is not her own.
what has happened to the sun-bathed friend i once knew?
where has she gone?

The Stallion And I

I'm ready, so ready
to release the beast I master
The cords in his arched neck tremble
berating my control
A buck warns me of worse to come
he isn't satisfied with prancing,
nature urges him
I smile, eager as my steed
to feel the earth pounding beneath our feet
Finally, finally I grant his wish
Lunging forward, our bodies connect
As one we feel the wind through our mane,
the lengthening churn of our legs
and the discreet balance of the rider we carry
Our muscles flex; this is what we were meant for
Familiarity calls to us,
calls us back
But we are unable to answer
Finally we are free
