My Angel Poem by Allison Barnett

My Angel

Rating: 3.5

The dark angel came to me
the night I died
His identical ebony wings unfurled
like sails on a hell-bent pirate ship
gliding on the tormented wind
to my window ledge
His face was fey like an elf
with golden eyes, and silver fangs
Crouching down like an impulse
ready to spring at any moment
he watched as the life was beaten out of me
With velvet clawed hands
my soul was snatched
and together we soared away
Through shooting comets
and twinkling stars
To a black place
from which light had gone
Eerie singing reverbrated around us
nearly tangible in the comforting blindness
The angel turned to me then
and kissed me with tenderness
When i opened my eyes
everything had changed
