Spiders Lament

Spider spider go away

You're still around

From yesterday

Hanging there

Above my bed

Are you asleep?

Or are you dead?

Do you plan

To catch some flies?

Or wait for me

to close my eyes?

Before you pounce

Land on my nose

Run down my face

Hide in my bed-clothes

Frighten me

When least expected?

Waiting until

I'm least protected?

Spider, spider go away

I really don't

Want you to stay

Little girl,

Just lying there,

I wish you knew

How much I care

I dangle here

Day and night

In the dark

In the light

Watching over

You sleep sound

Until the morn

When you come round

I try to smile

Or give a wave

Desperate for you

To just be brave

Glance up at me

And smile back!

Instead, you scream

Your Dad comes; Whack.
