William Waring Cuney (May 6, 1906 – June 30, 1976) was an African American poet who made considerable contributions to the Harlem Renaissance. He is best known for his poem "No Images", which won first prize in the 1926 Opportunity poetry contest.)
No Images
She does not know
her beauty,
she thinks her brown body
has no glory.
If she could dance
naked
under palm trees
and see her image in the river,
she would know.
But there are no palm trees
on the street,
and dish water gives back
no images.
