Of Encaged Birds And Worker Bees

I did not...

marry a man
who plays guitar
or desires to shine
as if a star
who sings his songs
into the night
and crafts his melodies
by candlelight

No... I married a man
much more pragmatic
much more mundane
and less emphatic
Who leaves his toys
up in the attic
Content to live
a life of static

Who dully works
from nine to five
then buzzes straight
back to his hive
does chores, stays put
for the kids to see
at home their father
Mr. Workerbee

That is the gist
of what is said
I am now married
I've made my bed
There's little choice
but to play it straight
There's no time to think
or dare create

So forget adventure
forget your play
your dreams? T'were meant
for a prior day
