The Waiting Poem by Nathalie Parnell

The Waiting

I waited patiently by the lake for you
But you did not come
I counted all the pebbles in my box
But you were not there
I had prepared a sandwich for our picnic
And I ate it all alone
I sat and watched birds flying in pairs in the sea blue sky
Still I remained there asking God why
Then I packed my things and left
Knowing you were not coming.
