Glory Poem by Mitchell Hood

Glory

Everybody dreams of being a hero,
Of making that shot when the clock is at zero
Emulating the Great One, Air Jordan, Broadway Joe
Doing it all for the glory, under the lights' hazy glow
We all want an award, a trophy, a banner
But the truest glory is of a whole different manner
You achieve genuine glory with every 15th round punch
When you make the 4th down tackle and hear your bones crunch
When you give it your all until you're ready to crumble
And stay on your toes as your opponent stumbles
Real glory lies in your every bead of sweat
In never giving up, never letting them forget
So that even if you lose, you've done your absolute best
It's this kind of drive that parts the heros form the rest
If you live for this moment, they will remember your name
And that lasts far longer than fortune or fame
If after a game, you lay flat on the ground,
The seats are all empty and there's no one around
And you know that you've done the most you can do
Then you have obtained a glory most true
