I walk into the dimly lit room,
The bottoms of my converse stick to the aisle with each step,
From all of the spilled soda coating the floor.
As I walk, the overwhelming aroma of fresh popcorn cascades the air around me.
Scattered heads among the seats,
Each one facing the screen,
As if in a trance.
The sound of their chattering quickly rushes into my ears.
I turned into a row and sat in that scratchy, faded red chair,
And tasted my butter soaked popcorn.
I listened to its crunch as the lights went from dim to dark,
And the once black screen turned green.
And I sat, eating my popcorn as I watched the story of someone else’s life on the screen.
While for about an hour and a half, I forgot all about the reality of my own.
