Treebuds

Treebuds

This gray pre-Spring dawning
tenderest young treebuds
timidly show their faces
risking everything
believing because of the Sun
and a spate of warmer days
that Winter now
is over…

Oh how I want to warn them
not to plunge headlong
into the thrill
of leafing -
it's not time yet!
The in-between days
will surely come
when Winter's icy grasp
will seize you
take you by surprise and
make you regret
your premature faith.

"We know, " they say…
"We think it's worth it
to taste the Sun today
to let the kindly breeze's
sweet caress
touch us where
we are most tender
to trace the face of heaven
with our supple fingers
and sleep in the arms
of the moon
to breathe together
beneath the stars and
to bask in the belief
that this is Our Time…"
