Youthful Poem by Denis Martindale

Youthful

The youthful lion stood there proud,
Aware of gazing eyes,
Yet in his heart, he daily vowed
That he would gain the prize.
He chose to be the alpha male
Regardless of the cost,
Determined that he must not fail
Or join the ones that lost.

So he maintained his physique well,
With cunning ways and guile,
So playful that no one could tell,
The reason for his smile.
Yet in his heart, he still recalled,
The fights of ages past,
Observing how short battles stalled
When strength gave out at last.

So he was running every day,
As if his strength to test,
And not like those who whiled away
The gentle times of rest.
His nature helped him not give in
And thus achieve his dream,
When his day came to fight and win,
As alpha male supreme.
