Your Best Friend Poem by Michael Saurer

Your Best Friend

You tell him ‘bout your loving life
But you don’t look him in his face
‘cause if you did, you’d see the haze
Of emotions in a raging dive

Your best friend
That’s what he lives for
Your best friend
That’s what he’d die for

You deserve the very best
But in his true and honest eyes
Your new guy not even qualifies
For the dirty, little rest

Your best friend
That’s what he breathes for
Your best friend
That’s what he’d grief for

He sees just another stepping stone
For the next suitor to the throne
And he, the only one who cares
Falls down another set of stairs

Your best friend
That’s what he fights for
Your best friend
That’s what he’d lose for

If you were really looking for
The man you always talk about
Perhaps you would hear him shout
‘I’m the one you’re hoping for! ’

But your best friend
That’s what he lives for
And your best friend
That’s what he’d die for
