You Won'T Read This Poem by T. M. Moore

You Won'T Read This

You won't read this, no; no one will. Or should
You do so, or should anybody read
It, well, like all the other words that bleed
From my soul's veins, it's doubtful much of good
Will come from the investment (would it would!) .
'Good? ' How much 'good' does any poet need
To keep him at this thankless task? Indeed,
He writes as if his compositions could
Ignite a revolution, boil some blood,
Or, at the very least, provoke some deed
Of mercy or some stand for truth. (I plead,
With every word, just to be understood.)
But as for 'good'? The hope that 'some' might be
Somewhere achieved will have to do for me.
