You Were Here Poem by Abby Mize

You Were Here

A little over a year ago
I met a nice young man
We both claimed to like each other
So after you I ran

I made you a priority
You were everything to me
You destroyed the locks upon my heart
Some how you found the key

You were always in my mind
Every second of the day
You were all I ever thought about
And all I'd ever say

I told you that I loved you
Was it a big mistake
I know it was a risk
A risk I was willing to take

You decided to make a choice
A decision to break me down
To turn my pretty smile
Into a terrible frown

Never can I forget
The mark that's on my heart
When you finally graduated
We both were split apart

Though you weren't so nice
And I shed a lot of tears
Some how I still like you
And I wish that you were here
