You Should Be Silent Poem by Wasan H Ibrahim

You Should Be Silent

You should be silent when children sleep,
so that their sweet dreams are not disturbed.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when the thief of their home is an owner crowned.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when the world is busy funding genocides.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when entire city blocks are turned to rubble and destroyed.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when they are parentless and need to be embraced.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when they are shivering, thirsty, and starved.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when their bodies are being slaughtered and maimed.
You should be silent when children sleep,
not when their dreams are being stolen and buried.
You should be silent NOT.
