You Are Here Poem by Ellen Shaw

You Are Here

Rating: 5.0

Fingertips touching fingertips
Reaching over the chasm
Stretched out on pointed toes
Balancing on a fine line
I am here and
You are here
Ready to clasp my hand
Trust a little
A whole lot more
Let go and give in
You are strong
Steady
Staying, You swear
Your promises sweet in my mouth
Breadcrumbs freshly baked
Lead a path from you
To me
Baby step by baby step
Moving closer together
'Come to me, ' you whisper
A siren song
I am powerless to resist
You are here
You are here
You are here
Until you disappear
Fingertips scrape nothing but air
Bitterness leaves me hungry
You were here
Now you are not
Alone I stand
Lost and empty
