You And I Poem by lola cesini

You And I

Rating: 5.0

You needed someone who made no demands
You sought me out, we became friends
You offered me sadness, spoke of lost love
You offered your loneliness, your troubled soul
I accepted your gifts, returned you my thoughts
I shared your loss and offered you comfort
I gave pearls of wisdom and trinkets of gold
I laid self esteem on a platter with love
You accepted in silence all I brought forth
You gained strength and trust, confidence to carry on
You shared your deeds, your dreams with me
You shared your frustrations even your fantasies
I felt your laughter, your very thoughts
I came to you and gave you love
You enhanced my senses, made me feel alive
You opened my eyes, helped me to shine
I offered kinship without family ties
I offered friendship that wouldn't die
I offered love to suit your needs
I often asked to state your wish
You learned to love and trust again
You found yourself another friend
I saw you distance yourself from me
I sensed your trouble, it stemmed from within
You could not share your new found joy
You were encumbered so you ignored
You sent away a love so pure
You could not know it would endure
I gave you space to think things out
I wrote what love was all about
You could not relate thus could not see
You didn't believe such love could be
You dimmed it wrong it should not pass
You felt remorse, let our friendship lapse
I asked for you to say farewell
I thought in parting you'd wish me well
But my request was not fulfilled
You never said be gone, be still
In silence you let time pass by
And left me alone to wonder why.
