Words Poem by Elizabeth Zerbst

My constant companions,
My colleagues and friends,
My playmates and the tools of my trade.
They dance in my dreams
And play games in my head
And they create every poem I've made.

They say that a picture paints
A thousand words
And I suppose that's true.
But I believe
With all of my heart,
That words can paint a picture, too.

Words can express
Deep emotions
Of extreme joy or of a broken heart.
Words can make you feel the
Most perfect happiness,
Or the deep sorrow of being apart.

Words can paint
A colorful garden
Of fragrant flowers in the spring.
Words can paint the green grass
And the endless blue sky
That a summer day can bring.

Words can paint
The changing colors
Of the leaves in the early fall,
And the clean white snow
On the distant hills,
When winter comes to call.

Words can create
A symphony
Of nature's most beautiful sounds.
The sweet song of a bird
Or the mighty roar
Of a waterfall tumbling down.

The gentle whisper
Of a morning breeze
Or the chirping of crickets at night.
Words can make you
Feel or see or hear...
If they are put together right.

A carpenter uses
Wood and nails
To create a masterpiece.
A true poet
Uses compelling words
With a passion that doesn't cease.

My constant companions,
My colleagues and friends,
My playmates and the tools of my trade.
They dance in my dreams
And play games in my head
And they create every poem I've made.

An insightful take on the essence and intricacies of poetry. Beautiful depiction of words as clothing of thoughts, well articulated and elegantly brought forth with conviction. A masterful piece of art. Thanks for sharing Elizabeth.
