Women Poem by Joydeep Sircar

Women

Women are simply...... Well, just women.
The second sex, the female eunuch....
Heavens! What will they think of next
to describe themselves?

I agree they generally suffer from many inequalities,
even the non-dumb blondes who can understand
Reflections on Anita Loos.
Those who escape sexual exploitation
still have to run the gauntlet of Dallowaystication,
Woolfishness and Plathitude,
not to mention post-menopausal syndrome.
It 's not easy to bear such vulnerabilities
as are bequeathed at birth
by the possession of ova.

And what about those who are elevated on pedestals
to receive male adoration?
Do they worry about their hair and insanitary pigeons
and the visibility of their nether parts?

Dalloway, Woolf and Plath? Oops-are we that bad? Even so, I enjoyed this sophisticated, erudite piece.
