Wolf's Eyes Poem by G J Salgado

Wolf's Eyes

Rating: 5.0

She wanted so deeply to run under the stars and howl at the moon but something always stopped her, 'But why? ' she asked herself.
All day she waited until night came and it left her breathless.

She needed nothing more than to run wild with the wolves. She promised herself that she would. She felt it in her bones that one day that day would come.

The day would soon come that would turn into night that would eventually and ultimately be the moment she's waited for her entire life.

She was afraid...not of the world or what lurked in the night; but who she feared was herself. 'What would she become if she became what she already knew she'd be? '

There was no denying it anymore for she had denied it all of her life, but no matter how many years or countless moons that came and went; the longing to be free was always the same and it grew as she grew.

In time in the calmest and craziest moments she always knew who she was, where the future existed; and where she's been all along.

The answers were the same day after day, night after night; year after year. Her soul was united with the heavens and she refused to deny herself of it.

The sun finally set and she had a gleam in her eyes that reflected that last hint of summer. She felt the breeze of fall as it passed through her hair and kissed her lips.

Nightfall came and the wind whispered in her ear. As the moon appeared she approached it and feared nothing. All that she knew was that freedom was waiting for her on the other side.

In the shadows the glow of the moon sparkled on her skin and it was then that she howled into the dark.

She wanted to run but this time, it was different; nothing was standing in her way. The scent of the night lured her in.

Her last thought to herself was, 'What if I run...if I run I may not stop...and if I go; what if I don't come back? '

Then she looked up at the moon one last time and howled so loudly and deeply as if she was saying goodbye to every thing that she thought she ever knew.

She turned away, closed her eyes; and then ran as fast as she could towards the moon...
