Winter Walk... Poem by Denis Martindale

Winter Walk...

The tiger woke and saw the snow
And didn't care a jot,
He simply stood as if to go
And walk around a lot...
This was his land, his sole domain,
The snow was but his guest,
Like snowflakes landing on his brain,
Though he groaned unimpressed...

He crunched the snow upon the ground
As he walked back and forth,
First East and West, then turned around
To then walk South and North...
'It's everywhere! ' the tiger sighed!
'How long I don't know for! '
You see, for him, there was no guide,
No wisdom, rule or law...

But icicles are prone to melt
And soon the tiger smiled
And suddenly, what joy he felt,
No longer sad or wild...
Once Spring arrived, the ground appeared,
No longer cold and white,
'It's not so bad as first I feared!
The future's looking bright! '
