Winter Trees Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Winter Trees

Cement rafters torn down like divorce
Wonder survives like gold in the stream
Sow your seed in the eternal field
Live with yourself and make peace

Leaves have been stripped like trials of love
Joy runs like a river under the fallow earth
You come back to me without aplomb
Compassion needs no justifications

The cat sleeps on an old quilt
Lamp light washes the memories
Windows without day only the past
I see a tree you loved

By the oak fire forgive
Your voice is a discreet candle
It's all inward though mountains laugh
Winter trees have a quiet beauty
