Winter's Veil Poem by Jake Harris

Winter's Veil

Cross the line, razor thin
Never know what side I'm in.
Walk on ice, surface weak
Cannot help my heavy feet.
Sick of watching every word
With a voice that's never heard.
Locked inside, inner hell,
Scratch and claw and scream and yell.
The time it comes my words sink in
but taken as an awful sin.
Pushed across the line now red
No taking back the words I've said.
And in the ice, my body plunged
A last attempt a desperate lunge,
Drags me out the chilly lake.
No one cares about my sake.
So I lay upon the frosty ground
Knowing again, I will fall down.
Forever watch the words I say,
Waiting for a warmer day.
