Winter Poem by james watkin

Winter

Underneath his drab coat
The unlooked-for doth out
At us burst, and nigh rout!
For is so buttoned up
Light's allure, so who
Summer's lost walkways brave
Become the amazed few!

Maiden hearts, gained on there
Love up-plucked for, do find
Them as equally blind:
As numerous are sung
Winter's charms; as liberal
Conferred, in Narcissis
Catmint's scent-packed recall.

How could we pass you up
In misconception, how?
Granting you wear a scowl!
Granting you inhabit
A world of prickly-exposed
And chill-hardened grimness!
How could we pass you up
Whom we thought could not bless?
