Windows And Mirrors Poem by Niall Boland

Windows And Mirrors

Rating: 3.5

To those who hear my voice and think they know who I am.
Who, with fragile sight believe they see me
and will not venture beyond the glass
believing the image they see on the surface
that that is all one needs to recognise who I am.

I am resting just beyond the surface.
Smiling, hoping and reaching
what lies between us is fragile glass
but for what is transparent for me
is just a reflection for you.

Time never passes at a set pace,
Pause to reflect on your days passing
touch the brittle glass and smash it
Your traveling a long and lonely road
lets us both enjoy the company

watch with me the mechanical man
powering from group to group, wasting and consuming
using the fickle to skip the crowds along the road
Does he not know there is no destination to rush too
Pity those the most who believe and follow him.

Life for me has never been the destination
I know this road well for it never changes
the trees and its leaves may fall by the side
but I'm content to travel slowly, cautiously
taking pleasure in the people I meet along the way.
