Why War? Poem by Jasmeher Kathuria

Why War?

They told us it's for our country's security,
To be ever ready and for the people to be safe,
But we all are in a state of obscurity,
How are we to feel secure in this armaments race.

Some fight to safeguard their religion,
They think their faith in God justifies their deeds,
But have they asked themselves this question,
Does their God approve of these?

We should ask ourselves within,
Why these armed conflicts?
Where we walk around with dark red stains on our skin,
Increasing our thirst for blood and transforming us into addicts.

We honour the dead who fight for their country's liberty,
But how could it possibly help them?
Instead, we should remain in a state of tranquillity,
Because they cannot be brought back to life like golems.

The world wars, the conflicts for superiority,
Surely they have taught us a lesson,
If we are united, even in our diversity,
We will be able to find the cure for this poison.

Ask yourself again, why war?
Delve within your soul to find an explanation,
You will find that there's nothing to explore,
It just aims at destroying God's creation.
