Why Do I Care So Much/To Write These Poems? Poem by Shalom Freedman

Why do I care so much
To write these poems?
Is it because of the hope of some belated recognition?
Hope of inclusion in the tradition of literature I have loved?
Is it simply the love of
The act of writing itself?
Is it the hope of sharing with others my feelings
And telling them they are not alone with their own feelings?
Is it for my survival?
The re-affirmation of the idea
That I am doing something meaningful in my life?
Or is it all of these,
and something else also
I myself do not know
and never will?
