Why Can'T I Be Like The Sea? Poem by Mariah Williams

Why Can'T I Be Like The Sea?

I am like the ocean.
I keep moving on through the motions
Without taking any notions…

Of the lonely passerby who gets hurt,
Or the friends who are left in the dirt,
Or if the people I hurt, are alert.

Now the guilt consumes me.
Why can’t it just… let me be?

The sea moves with such power and grace,
Moving things from place to place,
Without holding on to the embrace…

Of the sun and its rays,
Which set things a blaze.
What ever happened to the days…

When life was always sweet,
How can I live with all of this deceit?
How can I live with all of my cowardly retreats.

Why can’t I be as strong as the sea?
Why can’t we all just let things be?
Why can’t I be as free as the sea?
