When We Least Expect It Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

When We Least Expect It

Rating: 5.0

It seems like life is all heartbreak
Nevertheless, love, all magical
Hidden in the dark crevices of the past
Corrective good lies forlorn

Tears ‘n sadness
Fears ‘n constant search for answers
Maybe if only we had ‘n maybe she wouldn't have
All is in the mysteries of life

We once had a friend
Hilda is all memories, like suddenly
Pain n' not answers is all there is
Even as the grave opened its mouth

In the last shovel of dirt
Lies the lasting testimony of indelible memories
That will forever impact the remaining mortals
With calls for a serious introspection

Indeed, once upon a time there was Hilda our friend
Whom we held so dear in our hearts
Childhood memories of fun and banter
Which in adulthood, she never took lying down anymore.

(In loving memory of a departed friend, Hilda Tavengwa)
