When The Sun Begins To Set Poem by Cherie Mort

When The Sun Begins To Set

I love being out in the garden
Warm soil beneath my feet
Scented breezes drifting past my nose like silken scarves
Sunset is the perfect time to be out-of-doors
There's no noonday heat to burn up my skin now
And it's cool enough for little soil creatures to enjoy the moonlight with me

Earthworms poke up their heads like submarines in the ocean
And slowly slither out tentatively, cautious of the still-burning sidewalk
Crickets serenade the moon with their strumming wings like violins
Moonflowers show their lovely budding faces, like laughing ladies at a party
I inhale the air and feel the nature around me stirring feelings in my soul
It smells like a rainstorm is approaching

I wait and wait until the rain arrives, sprinkling its invigorating lifesource over my body
I smile and dance as I am drenched in spring rain
Mud seeps upwards from the ground, cooling the earth around me
The worms dance, the trees wave, the flowers laugh and the crickets sing
And the sun has finally settled into the earth
