When I Voted Poem by Kishore Asthana

When I Voted

When I voted I anointed lawmakers
Seven score with criminal cases
Who get annoyed when someone removes
The masks from their real faces

When I voted, I got a government
Whose head is separate from its hands
I am Indian but my Supremo is from
One of the far off western lands

When I voted I got a government
Which is there and isn’t quite so
I have a PM who never means yes
And, unfortunately, never says no

When I voted I had hopes
For my India and its pain
Now I will wait five years more
And vote myself out of hope again
